Homemade Glidetrack



So after seeing some video shot on a DSLR with a Glidetrack, I thought I’d try and build a cheap one to do some dolly-style shots with. I used 2 u-channel aluminum tracks from Lee Valley and then made a slider using some low friction polyethylene and homemade aluminum pieces to tie it all together.


It’s got tripod mounts tapped into the middle mount as well as at each end to allow 2 tripods for a more stable mount.


This was some great practice with my new milling machine to make the connecting pieces. I just need to find another project now to maybe justify buying some new tooling. Here’s a first sample video:
